Human occipital bone sexual dimorphism in an Archiac period archaeological population
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper presents the results of a comprehensive study of sexual dimorphism in the human occipital region of the skull using the remains of 39 prehistoric adults from the prehistoric Windover (6,000-8,000 BP). The results of a discriminant analysis classified 64% of the individuals correctly (using osteologically identified sex). Sexual dimorphism in this population may not be prevalent due to environmental stress. . CC-BY-NC-ND 4.0 International license peer-reviewed) is the author/funder. Sexual Dimorphism in Surface Anatomical Parameters of Human Cerebral Cortex in Different Lebes in Normal and Neurodegenerative Subjects: a Stereological and Macroscopical Study
Purpose: This study sought to determine sex differences in surface anatomical parameters (thickness and surface areas) of human cerebral cortex in different lobes of the left hemisphere in normal right-handed subjects and right-handed subjects suffering from Alzheimer and Parkinson's diseases. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional descriptive study was performed on 72 normal human brains...
متن کاملHuman Adult Occipital Condyles : A Morphometric Analysis
This study proposed to morphologically analyze the adult human occipital condyle, estimate the bilateral differences, sexual dimorphism and compare with the available data. We conducted this study on hundred occipital condyles in fifty dry human skulls. The measurement was performed by the means of the vernier’s caliper on both sides of the skull. The parameters measured are length, width, heig...
متن کاملSexual Dimorphism in Diaphyseal Cross-sectional Shape in the Medieval Muslim Population of Écija, Spain, and Anglo-Saxon Great Chesterford, UK
Differences in adult male and female activity patterns may influence levels of sexual dimorphism in physical dimensions, including the cross-sectional shape of long bone diaphyses. Previous studies of archaeological populations have demonstrated significant differences in diaphyseal shape between males and females. In this study, dimorphism in external diaphyseal shape of upper and lower limb b...
متن کاملSexual Dimorphism in Human Hip Bone- A Review
Skeletal characteristics vary among populations; therefore each population should have specific standards to optimize the accuracy of identification. Although many bones of skeleton present size related sexual differences, those of the hip bone usually displayed marked differences in morphology independent of size due to different reproductive functions mainly influenced by sex hormones. The di...
متن کاملSexual dimorphism and age dependence of osteocyte lacunar density for human vertebral cancellous bone.
The sexual dimorphism in age-related loss of human vertebral cancellous bone is not fully understood and could be related to dimorphism in the bone cell populations. The objective of this study was to investigate age- and gender-related differences in the osteocyte population and its relationship with bone volume fraction for human vertebral cancellous bone. Histomorphometric techniques were us...
